How To Solve Outlook Can't Open or Save The Mail Attachment

This post how to solve a problem with Microsoft Outlook, where user cannot open or save the mail attachment.

When you click to open the attachment file, the file can not be opened and there is a warning like this :
Can not create file ... Right - click the folder you want to create the file in , and then click Properties on the shortcut menu to check your permissions for the folder.

When  you try to save-as the attachment file, files can not be saved, and there is a warning as below :
Can not save the attachment . Can not create file : ... Right - click the folder you want to create the file in , and then click Properties on the shortcut menu to check your permissions for the folder .

If you read this warning, it said because of permission problem, I think it is not right, unless the user has  changed his own permissions.

The real problem that happen is because you receive and open email with the same attachment file name repeatedly.

Outlook has a temporary folder , and when you open the email attachment, the file will be entered into the temporary folder . Actually this attachment file will be automatically deleted itself when you close the file attachment with condition Outlook window is still open. If the Outlook  is already closed and the attachment file is still open, then the file attachment will remain in the temporary folder .
And when later ( the next day or whenever ) you receive  and open email attachment with the same name again, then Outlook will generate new file name with number at the end of file name. The limit is up to 99.
If it reaches 99 then you can no longer to open or save email attachment with the same name .

The solution is you have to Delete the contents inside the Outlook Temporary Folder (actually you only need to delete the files those have a problem, but for easiest way  you can delete all contents).

To find the location of the Outlook temporary folder :
• Run Registry Editor ( press Windows Logo + R to display the RUN menu , then type Regedit in the Run field , and hit enter or click OK )
• In the Regedit window select the Edit menu , and then click Find to display the search field , or press Ctrl + F
• Write Content.Outlook on the search field , and press Enter or click OK

• If already found, you will know the  location of outlook temporary folder, browse according to location showed , ( for simple just copy the location and paste it in the file explorer or in the Run menu )

Select all the files in that folder , then delete it, or if you want make a copy  first backup to another folder, then delete.
